How to phone in an emergency call - Do you know how?
Here are some typical mistakes...
- Not stopping to confirm it is a true emergency - numerous times we have been called to a car in the ditch which has beed there for hours and no persons around and even fire tape on the vehicle that has been checked previously..
- Please STOP / CHECK / CONFIRM then CALL if needed
- Not giving clear location. Most people call on a cell phone miles down the road and are often in a different fire department area. This causes people and resources to be dispatched to look for something out of their area. This can delay help to someone who needs it because dispatchers then need to call other departments to try to find the emergency location.
- STOP / SEE WHERE YOU REALLY ARE then DIAL 911
STAY AT THE SCENE TILL EMERGENCY CREWS ARRIVE - This will ensure they find the scene much easier.
